Glarus

Glarus is the capital of the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Glarus municipality since 1 January 2011 incorporates the former municipalities of Ennenda, Netstal and Riedern.

Many locals also find the proximity to important centres decisive. Zurich and Chur are only 45 minutes away by car, whilst the Zurich main railway station, Zurich airport, and Chur railway station are only one hour away by train.

Other regions may be bigger, but very few are so diverse and varied as Glarnerland. In summer, biking, rambling, climbing, surfing, sailing, and paragliding are on the programme; in winter, it’s downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snowshoeing. You can leave all your cares behind at any time of the year – just sitting on a sun terrace or by a lake and doing nothing. The local resorts are homey, the hotels are family-friendly, the people are gregarious: anyone who takes a break from their daily routine in Glarnerland, even for a day, is guaranteed to return home relaxed.
